Since around 2010, we have embarked upon an ambitious programme of upgrades and improvements to turn this formerly run down property into a busy Community Centre with a footfall of over 600 people per week, and a premier venue for hire in Whitchurch.
That programme of improvements includes:
2012 Upgrading the interior lighting to low energy fluorescents throughout
The fluorescent lights throughout the building were replaced with new low energy fluorescents on new battens in order to reduce our energy consumption

2014 Installing and upgrading programmable exterior lighting
As evening usage of the centre increased, it became increasing apparent that we needed to upgrade our exterior lighting. Two new exterior lighting circuits were added, one at each end of the building, each on a separate programmable timer.

2017 New gas boilers and extension to the heating system
Boring behind the scenes stuff, not even worthy of a photo, but key to making the venue warm, dry and welcoming

2018 – Replacing the Victorian windows with modern PVC double glazed replicas
The Brownlow Centre is a wonderful example of Victorian Community architecture with extensive use of glass throughout. There are dozens and dozens of windows in the property and by 2016 many of them were draughty and leaking at the end of their life. We embarked upon a programme of replacing them with modern, PVC double glazed units which exactly replicated the appearance of originals. This, more than any other improvement, has transformed the experience of using the building. Starting with the front-facing windows, we have continued to replace units as funds have become available in an ongoing improvement programme, and we still have a few to do.
The front rooms, kitchen and main hall are all now done.

2021 – Disabled Parking Bay
Work started on our disabled parking bay in November 2021
This area was completed by PMB landscaping. The blocks are self-draining so don’t contribute to flooding.
February 2022 – Main Hall Refurbishment
We were delighted to receive National Lottery funding from TNLComFund for our New Floor project! We had Elite Emulsions repainting the Main Hall and also new floor laid. New blinds were also installed by mirage blinds. This is now a fantastic venue for the people of Whitchurch.
March 2022 – The Brownlow Finally In The 21st Century
Broadband was installed at the centre.
April 2022 – Roof Verges Repaired
130 years of wind and weather had taken its toll on our roof. We had many loose tiles which were re-fixed in order to prevent problems in the years ahead. The work was done by ASJ Roofing Contractors, a Whitchurch based firm.
Summer 2022 – New Front Doors
Our new fully automatic front doors have given us full disability access. There is full disability access to all areas of the building.
